Susan Folwell continues to combine classic imagery with her own contemporary style of shape and design. This is a wide bowl that is fully polished. There are a series of birds etched into the clay around the shoulder of the bowl.  In between the birds is an etched feather design.  For the rim of the bowl, Susan added water so that it created a “texture” which is a striking contrast to the stone polished surface of the rest of the piece.  The bowl was fired to create a strong brown coloration.  It is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Susan Folwell”.  Susan’s pottery is meant to not only connect with us visually but also through touch and at times it is meant to make us think.
