Virginia Ponca Fragua (b. 1961) began making pottery in 1977.  She was taught to make pottery by her mother, Lenora Fragua, and her cousin, Laura Gachupin.  This tall jar is oval in shape. The back half is fully stone polished tan. The front has a large corn plant in relief.  It is painted with red, black, and white clay slips.  Surrounding the corn plant are cloud and rain designs.  The unique shape and the raised relief of the corn give the piece a very distinctive appearance.  It is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Ponca Fragua”.  It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair.
