Laura Gachupin is one of the leading potters from Jemez Pueblo.  This is one of her classic melon jars. The jar has 46 swirling melon gribs carved into the clay.  They extend from the bottom of the neck to the base.  The opening on the jar is square. The entire piece is fully polished tan, the natural color of the clay.  It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair. It is signed on the bottom, “Laura Gachupin”.
