Laura Gachupin is one of the leading potters from Jemez Pueblo.  This is one of her classic melon jars. The jar has 64 ribs pushed out in the clay.  They are vertical and symmetrical. The opening on the jar is square. The entire piece is fully polished tan, the natural color of the clay.  It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair. It is signed on the bottom, “Laura Gachupin”.
