This is an intricately designed bowl by Gloria Garcia. The seedpot is fully polished and fired red. The bowl has seven ducks etched around the shoulder. Below the ducks are 17 fish! Note how one of the ducks has its head below the water! Below the fish is an avanyu encircling the bowl. This is a charming and complex piece in design. Gloria’s combination of polishing and etched designs is always striking. This piece is signed on the bottom with her Tewa name “GoldenRod”.

Gloria Garcia

Gloria Garcia (b.1942) is the daughter of Petra Gutierrez and a sister of potters Minnie Vigil, Lois Gutierrez, and the mother of Jason Garcia. Gloria is known for her intricately incised miniature pottery. Gloria has won numerous awards for her pottery over the years at Santa Fe Indian Market and has pottery in the permanent collection of the Smithsonian Institute in Washington, DC.
