Garcia, Jessie – Bowl with Lizards in Relief (1970s)

7"w x 5"h

$ 375.00

Jessie Garcia is one of the great names in Acoma pottery.  Between 1950 and 1970, she along with Lucy Lewis and Marie Z. Chino led the revival of Acoma pottery.  This bowl is round with the design painted on the outside.  There are two lizards on each side which are in relief. The remainder of the bowl is painted with a geometric rain and plant design. It is a complicated pattern that works well on this shape of a bowl.  The bowl is painted with bee-weed (black) and red clay for added color.  It was traditionally fired which gives it some color variation on the surface.  It is signed on the bottom, “Jessie Garcia” It is in very good condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair.
