Garcia, Jessie – Bowl with Rising and Setting Moon Design (1960s)

4.5"w x 3.5"h

$ 250.00

Jessie Garcia is one of the great names in Acoma pottery.  Between 1950 and 1970, she along with Lucy Lewis and Marie Z. Chino led the revival of Acoma pottery.  This bowl is painted with a classic Acoma design.  There are rising and setting moon designs (the circle).  The rising moon (near the rim) is over the canyon and the setting moon is descending behind the mountains.   It was traditionally fired which gives it some color variation on the surface.  It is signed on the bottom, “Jessie Garcia”.  It is in very good condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.  It was originally purchased in the 1960s.
