Garcia, Jessie – Jar with Rain Designs, Fox Handle and Ribbon (1964)

5.5"w x 7.5"h

$ 675.00

Jessie Garcia is one of the great names in Acoma pottery.  Between 1950 and 1970, she along with Lucy Lewis and Marie Z. Chino led the revival of Acoma pottery.  This is one of the few pieces we have had of her work with a handle.  The jar or pitcher is painted around the neck with a cloud pattern and around the shoulder with a mountain design.  Between are four rows of interlocking rain designs.  The jar has a fox handle that is painted on the back and has a tail in relief!   The jar is painted with bee-weed (black) and traditionally fired, creating some color variation on the surface.  It is signed on the bottom, “Jessie Garcia”.  It is in very good condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
