Garcia, Sarah – Jar with Rain Designs and Handle (1960s)

7"w x 7"h

$ 600.00

This is a creative piece by Sarah Garcia (1928-2015).  Sarah, along with Jessie Garcia, Lucy M. Lewis, and Marie Z. Chino, was largely responsible for the revival of Anasazi and Tularosa designs on contemporary Acoma vessels.  This jar is thin-walled and tightly painted.  There are fine-line rain designs along with plant patterns. The jar has a handle that has three bands of clay and is painted with more rain patterns.  It was traditionally fired outside so there are some color variations on the surface.  It is signed on the bottom, “Sarah Garcia”.  It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
