Garcia, Virginia – Large Red Storage Jar (1990s)

8.5"w x 9"h

$ 800.00

Virginia Garcia is a sister of noted potters Tina Garcia and Greg Garcia.  While she no longer makes pottery, much like her siblings, she was known for her traditional forms and creative firings.  This jar has a “storage jar” shape with a round body and a short neck.  It is an elegant shape and one that has a lot of “volume” when polishing!  That is the difficulty of this shape, to polish the entire surface.  The jar is an unusual reddish-brown coloration.  Virginia would often experiment with firing techniques and clay slips to create various colorations in her firings.  This one is highly polished and a striking color!  It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair.  It is signed on the bottom in the clay, ‘Virginia Garcia”.  The little tag on the bottom is the inventory number from Robert Nichols Gallery, who represented her work for many years.
