Garcia, Virginia – Large Red Water Jar with Bear Paws (1990)

8"w x 8.25"h

$ 650.00

Virginia Garcia is a sister of noted potters Tina Garcia and Greg Garcia.  While she no longer makes pottery, much like her siblings, she was known for her traditional forms and creative firings.  This water jar is vertically polished and fired a deep red coloration. The shape has a sharp shoulder and a turned out neck. The interior of the neck is also fully polished. There are two bear paws impressed into the clay and then polished.  The bear paws tell the story of a Pueblo Village during a drought and the bear which led them to water.  The jar was traditionally fired outdoor.  It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair.  It is signed on the bottom in the clay, ‘Virginia Garcia”.
