Garcia, Virginia – Red Water Jar with Bear Paws (1990s)
$ 400.00
Virginia Garcia is a sister of noted potters Tina Garcia and Greg Garcia. While she no longer makes pottery, much like her siblings, she was known for her traditional forms and creative firings. This jar has a sharp shoulder and elongated neck. On the neck, there are two impressed bear paws which were then fully polished along with the rest of the jar. The bear paws are a symbol for good luck and a story where a bear led the Pueblo people to water during a drought. The jar was fully polished red and then fired a deep red coloration. It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair. It is signed on the bottom in the clay, ‘Virginia Garcia”.
