Wilfred Garcia was married to Sandra Shutiva and was a son-in-law of Stella Shutiva. He learned to make pottery from Stella. He called his pottery “A Vision of Dreams” and was known for his sculptural works in clay. This large seed pot is coil-built. On the top, there is a fetish bear in relief. Note that the feathers are on top of the bear which is on top of the seedpot in terms of the layering! It is a great piece of clay-work. The bear has additional incised texturing on the surface. The piece is signed, “W. Garcia” and it is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.

Wilfred Garcia was married to Sandra Shutiva and was a son-in-law of Stella Shutiva. He learned to make pottery from Stella. He called his pottery “A Vision of Dreams” and was known for his sculptural works in clay. This large seedpot is coil built. On the top, there is a bear paw in relief with the claws carved through the clay. However, take a closer look at the “pad” of the paw. There is a heartline bear and a stylized Acoma bird as the design! They are incised into the clay. The piece is signed, “W. Garcia” and it is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.

Wilfred Garcia was married to Sandra Shutiva and was a son-in-law of Stella Shutiva. She taught him to make pottery. He was a son of Tony and Lucy Garcia and the brother of Mary Garcia Seymour. He made pottery on his own, as well as with his wife, Sandra. He called his art, "A Vision of Dreams" that come to him from Mother Earth. He began as a painter and learned to make pottery from his mother-in-law. He won awards at Santa Fe Indian Market and the Heard Museum Indian Market.
