Gutierrez, Denny – Flat Top Red Bowl with 40 Feathers (1987)
Denny Gutierrez was known for his faceted melon bowls. However, he also created exceptional painted vessels. This is one of his distinctive redware pieces. The jar has a narrow base and a flat top. There are 40 painted feathers encircling the top of the bowl. Extending up from the feathers are two sections with lightning and rain and two with a cloud pattern. It is a striking use of design and shape on a very highly polished surface. The bowl is from 1987. It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair. It is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Denny Gutierrez”.
