Denny Gutierrez was known for his faceted melon bowls.  However, he also created exceptional painted vessels. This large jar has sloping sides and it is fully polished.  It is painted with 44 feathers encircling the piece.  Above the feathers in four sections are bird wings. The lines are all tightly painted before the piece was fired.  The jar is very highly polished and fired a deep black coloration.  It is from 1988.  It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.  It is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Denny Gutierrez”.
