Denny Gutierrez was known for his faceted melon bowls.  However, he also created exceptional painted vessels. This is one of his distinctive redware pieces.  The bowl has a sharp shoulder and sloping sides.  It is painted with 48 feathers. Note how they are at a slight angle.  Above the feathers are a sun, cloud, and prayer feather design.  The piece was fired a strong red coloration.  The symmetry of the jar and precision of the painting is exceptional  The jar is from 1987.  It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.  It is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Denny Gutierrez”.
