Denny Gutierrez was known for his faceted melon bowls.  However, he also created exceptional painted vessels. This is one of his few redware pieces.  The piece is a distinctive shape with a narrow base and a flat top.  The top is painted with 39 feathers.  Near the rim are cloud, rain, and mesa designs.  The symmetry of the jar and precision of the painting is exceptional  The jar is from 1988, so very early in his career.  It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.  It is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Denny Gutierrez”.
