Denny Gutierrez was known for his faceted melon bowls.  However, he also created exceptional painted vessels. This jar has a low, sharp shoulder and an elongated neck. The feathers are tightly painted around the neck of the jar.  The remainder is fully polished to a glassy black.  It is a creative use of form and design.  The polished surface has a mirror-like appearance.  It is from 1991.  It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.  It is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Denny Gutierrez”.
