Helen Gutierrez (1935-1993) was a daughter of Isabel Atencio, a sister of Gilbert Atencio, and the mother of Geraldine, Carol, and Rose Gutierrez. She was known for her traditional San Ildefonso pottery.  This is a long neck water jar. The jar is highly polished.  It is painted around the shoulder with a feather pattern and cloud designs on the neck.  It is a striking and traditional design.  The jar is fired red and the painted areas are matte/buff in coloration.  The jar is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Helen Gutierrez”.  It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
