7.5"w x 7.5"h

$ 1,200.00

This is an charming polychrome jar by Lois Gutierrez.  She is one of the few potters who continues to create polychrome pottery at Santa Clara.  Polychrome, or more than three different colors of clay slips, are all painted onto the surface of the vessel before it is fired. This is a water jar shape with a wide shoulder and an elongated neck.  The jar has two quail families. There are two baby quail that are looking upward at the stylized dragonfly in the sky. Separating the scene is a rainbow and cloud design.  The rainbow has six different colors of clay!  Below the shoulder is a water design.  Note the overall complexity of the design and all the various clay colors!  The jar was traditionally fired.  It is signed on the bottom, “Lois 2020”.
