Gutierrez, Virginia – Nambe Polychrome Bowl with Five Sun Designs and Avanyu (1990s)

5"w x 2"h

$ 300.00

Virginia Gutierrez was of the few polychrome potters from Nambe Pueblo. She is known for her experimentation with various clay slips.  This seedpot is highly detailed in design. There are five different sun faces painted onto the surface of the piece. They are each overlapping.  There is an additional avanyu off to one side.  There are at least SIX different colors of clay used on this piece, making it a true polychrome (more than three colors). It is signed on the bottom, “V. Gutierrez”.  It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
