Haungooah, Art Cody – Large Jar with Hunter and Mimbres Scorpion (1984)

5.5"w x 6.5"h

$ 1,000.00

This is a spectacular large jar by Art Cody Haungooah.  The piece has two large polished medallions and the remainder is matte.  Each medallion is stone polished and over 3″ in diameter, which is more design work than on one of his smaller pieces!  One side has a complex Mimbres scorpion that is incised and highlighted with white and yellow clay slips.  The opposite side has a hunter with a shield and quiver.  On one side is a sun design with feathers.  The opposite side has a cricket with a double rainbow of designs.  The designs are incised into the polished surface and highlighted with white and yellow slips.   The jar is signed “AH” on his shield (next to the little bear paw!).  In his later work, Art would often incorporate his signature into his designs and it takes a minute to find them.  The jar is in very good condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
