Hista, Eva – Large Jar with Rainbird Rim and Interlocking Stars (1960s)

10"w x 11.5"h

$ 1,200.00

Eva Histia (1914-2005) was the daughter of Helice Vallo and mother of Hilda Antonio, Rose Torivio, and Ida Ortiz. She began making pottery around 1922 and continued through about 1990.  She was known for her use of classic shapes and designs.  This is a spectacular jar with a round shoulder and a turned-out rim.  The jar is painted with bee-weed (black).  Around the neck are interlocking fine-line stars.  Below the shoulder are cloud, rain, and lightning designs.  The top of the rim is turned outwards and painted with classic rainbirds.  The jar was traditionally fired to create slight blushes on the surface.  It is signed on the bottom in the clay, “E. Hista”.  The jar is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair.
