This is a classic tall water jar by Lisa Holt and Harlan Reano. They make an amazing team, working to create innovative pottery using traditional techniques. Lisa makes the pottery and it is painted by Harlan. This jar has a round shoulder and elongated neck. On one side there is a hummingbird and the other has a stalk of corn. They are surrounded by traditional Santo Domingo (Kewa) geometric designs. The imagery is detailed and perfectly painted! Near the base are mountain designs. The jar is painted with wild-spinach plant (black) and red clay slip. It was traditionally fired for a nearly perfect coloration of the cream-colored clay. It is signed on the bottom, “Lisa Holt & Harlan Reano”. It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.

Lisa learned to make pottery from her mother, Inez Ortiz, and she is also a niece of Virgil Ortiz, Janice Ortiz, and a granddaughter of Seferina Ortiz. The materials are all traditional as the red and cream are both native clays while the black is wild spinach (a plant). Traditional forms and designs have become modernistic interpretations of cultural imagery. Lisa and Harlan have won numerous major "Best of Pottery" awards for their pottery at the Heard Indian Fair, Autry Museum Indian Fair, and Santa Fe Indian Market.
