WOW!  This is a spectacular large jar Lisa Holt and Harlan Reano.  They make an amazing team, working to create innovative pottery using traditional techniques.  Lisa makes the pottery and it is painted by Harlan.  This jar has a tightly painted design around the neck with flowering motifs. The sides have large flower medallions with SIX layers of design that spiral out from the center.  The tightness and flow of the design are exceptional and perfectly match the shape of the jar.  Separating each of the four large medallions are four extensions of plant tendrils (or some people call them flames).  Each of the four areas has five tendrils, for a total of 20.  Harlan said that the earlier versions of this had two bands of tendrils, but creating four was much more difficult.  The result, however, is a very cohesive appearance and flow of design and form.  The materials are all traditional as the cream and red colors are clays, and the black is black is wild spinach (a plant). The jar is traditionally fired outdoors, but it fired nearly perfectly with a strong white appearance and contrast between the black-and-white.  It is signed on the bottom, “Lisa Holt/Harlan Reano”.
