Mavasta Honyouti is a skilled Hopi Katsina carver from Hotevilla Third Mesa; He is Ronald Honyouti’s son and Clyde Honyouti’s Grandson, both skilled Hopi Katsina carvers.  He is well known for his scenes carved in low-relief.  This piece is entitled, “Circuitry of the Stars”. The piece is carved in the shape of a vessel from cottonwood root. There are nine katsina faces that are linked together.  There are Blue Chasing Star, Red Chasing Star, Chakwaina, He-e-e, Bee, Aholi,a nd others.  They capture various aspects of the universe around us. The surrounding area is also carved and has stars.  There are double rainbows connecting each of the katsina faces.  It is all painted and exceptional in style and deisgn.  It is signed, “M. Honyouti”.
