Huma, Rosetta – Ladle with Rain Designs (1971)

7.5" long x 3.5"w

$ 225.00

Rosetta Huma was from Sichomovi on First Mesa, Hopi. She was the mother of Wilfred Huma and the former mother-in-law of Rondina Huma. She began making pottery in the 1950s.  This ladle is fully polished on the handle and even inside the bowl!  Around the outside of the bowl, there is a rain and cloud pattern painted with bee-weed nad highlighted with red clay. The piece was traditionally fired to create the blushes on the surface.  The piece is signed on the bottom, “Rosetta Huma”.  It is in very good condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.  It is certainly a wonderful piece of Hopi pottery history!
