This is a classic Hopi-Tewa jar by Stella Huma. Stella Huma made pottery from 1960 to 1995. This large jar is coil-built and painted with bee-weed (black) and red clay slips. The jar is the classic Sikyatki shape with a very low, wide shoulder and short neck. The entire piece is fully polished. The top is painted with rows of birds and geometric patterns. It is a complex design on an elegant shape! The jar was traditionally fired and it is signed on the bottom, “Stella Huma”. It is in good condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair.
