Johnson, Barbara – Red Jar with Cloud Patterns (1980’s)
Barbara Johnson was a daughter of noted Maricopa potter Mabel Sunn. This jar is a classic shape for Maricopa pottery with the low shoulder and elongated neck. The entire piece is fully polished. The black designs are derived from a mixture of mesquite sap and cactus spines. The imagery is a cloud and mountain pattern. The bowl is signed on the bottom in the clay, “B. J”. It is in very good condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair.
