Juanico, Dolores – Jar with 1880’s Acoma Design

2"w x 2"h

$ 240.00

Dolores Juanico is a daughter of Marie S. Juanico and a granddaughter of Dolores Sanchez.  She learned to make pottery from her mother.  Each piece is coil built, painted with bee-weed (black), and painted with native clay slips.  Much of Dolores’s pottery is inspired by historic Acoma vessels. This jar is a classic Acoma shape with a high shoulder and short neck.  The jar is inspired by an Acoma water jar with similar designs from 1870-80.  The jar has two Acoma birds with flowers.  They have two bands of circular rainbows as part of the design.  It is signed on the bottom, “D. Juanico”.  It is in excellent condition with no chips, restoration, or repair.
