Dolores Juanico is a daughter of Marie S. Juanico and a granddaughter of Dolores Sanchez. She learned to make pottery from her mother. Each piece is coil built, painted with bee-weed (black), and painted with native clay slips. Much of Dolores’s pottery is inspired by historic Acoma vessels. This large jar is a classic Acoma shape with a round shoulder and a short neck. The jar has parrots, rainbows, and flowers as the design. It is painted with red and brown clay slips along with black. It is a complex design that encompasses the surface of the jar. The jar was inspired by an Acoma vessel from 1890-1900. It is signed on the bottom, “D. Juanico”. It is in excellent condition with no chips, restoration, or repair. The jar has a second-place ribbon from the 2017 Heard Museum Indian Market.
