$ 1,400.00

Marie Juanico (1937-2024) learned to make pottery from her mother, Dolores Sanchez (who lived to be 103!).  Marie began making pottery in 1962.  She was known for her innovative use of various colors of clay slips on her pottery.  Her daughter, Delores Juanico Aragon, continues to make pieces in a similar style. This is a classic larger jar by Marie.  The jar has two large Acoma birds on either side.  They are surrounded by a rain and sun design (a stylized rainbow).  Separating them are rain cloud and rain designs. The rain is represented by the thin lines.  There are four different colors used on this jar!  The jar is fully designed with patterns that follows the shape of the water jar.  It is signed on the bottom in the clay, “M. S. Juanico”.  It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair.
