Kahe-Charley, Karen – Large Canteen with Swirling Birds (1993)

12"w x 11"h

$ 1,600.00

Karen Kahe Charley is a daughter of Marcella Kahe. She learned to make pottery from her mother in 1980. This canteen is coil-built, stone-polished, painted with bee-weed and red clay, and traditionally fired.  The canteen has a band of mountain designs extending across the surface.  There are four sections of swirling birds on the jar.  They are highly detailed with small lines and classic Hopi-Tewa imagery.  The jar was traditionally fired to create the blushes on the surface.  The jar is signed on the bottom with Karen’s hallmark.  It is in very good condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
