Kahe-Charley – Karen – Large Jar with Star Design

11"w x 8"h

$ 1,400.00

Karen Kahe Charley is a daughter of Marcella Kahe. She learned to make pottery from her mother in 1980. This large jar is coil built, painted with bee-weed and red clay, and traditionally fired.  The jar has a high shoulder, a flat top, and a neck with an out-turned rim.  It is an elegant shape.  The top is painted with a large Awatovi star pattern.  The star is highlighted with a checkerboard pattern. Separating each part of the star are Sikyatki style birds. They each swirl around and there are small panels inside each bird with classic Hopi-Tewa designs.  The jar is signed on the bottom with Karen’s hallmark.  It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
