Kahe-Charley, Karen – Large Water Jar with Swirling Birds (1993)
$ 875.00
Karen Kahe Charley is a daughter of Marcella Kahe. She learned to make pottery from her mother in 1980. This jar has a round shoulder and turned-out rim. It is coil-built, stone-polished, painted with bee-weed and red clay, and traditionally fired. The jar has four panels of spiraling Sikyatki-style birds painted above the shoulder and four below. They are highly detailed with small lines and classic Hopi-Tewa imagery. The jar was traditionally fired to create the blushes on the surface. The jar is signed on the bottom with Karen’s hallmark. It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
