Karen Kahe Charley is a daughter of Marcella Kahe. She learned to make pottery from her mother in 1980. This canteen is coil-built, stone-polished, painted with bee-weed and three different colors of clay, and traditionally fired.  The canteen has rounded handles and a short neck. The front is fully painted with two sections of swirling Sikyatki birds.  There are two sections with bird tails.  The squares all have various Hopi-Tewa designs. There are multiple colors of clay used to accent the designs.  The canteen is signed on the bottom with Karen’s hallmark.  It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
