Kahe-Charley, Karen – Small Jar with Swirling Birds (1990s)

4.5"w x 3"h

$ 400.00

Karen Kahe Charley is a daughter of Marcella Kahe. She learned to make pottery from her mother in 1980. This jar has a round shoulder and a sloping neck.  It is coil-built, stone-polished, painted with bee-weed and red clay, and traditionally fired.  The jar has four swirling birds as the design.  Each bird extends from the rim to the shoulder.  They are highly detailed with small lines and classic Hopi-Tewa imagery.  The jar was traditionally fired to create the blushes on the surface.  The jar is signed on the bottom with Karen’s hallmark.  It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
