She began making pottery in 1940 and was part of the Butterfly Clan and lived in Schomovi on First Mesa. She was known for her traditional Hopi pottery. This large bowl is coil-built and stone polished. It was painted with bee-weed (black) and highlighted with red clay. The bowl has two large butterflies on the top. One is slipped with red and the other black. Separating them are elongated, stylized butterflies. The bowl was traditionally fired to create the blushes on the surface. The bowl is signed, “Marcella”. It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
