Val Kahe is a daughter of noted potter Gloria Kahe.  She is known for her intricately painted pottery.  This tile is made in the older style of Hopi-Tewa pieces.  It is a thin and fully polished on the front and back.  The design on front has a Hopi Shalako Katsina as the design.  It is painted with bee-weed (black) and a red clay slip.  The tile was traditionally fired.  It is signed on the back, “V. Kahe”.
