Komalestewa, Cynthia Sequi – Bowl with Sunflower Designs (1990s)

3.5"w x 3.5"h

$ 325.00

Cynthia Sequi Komalestewa (1954-2002) was a daughter of Hugh Sequi (who was the brother of Helen Naha) and a sister of Miltona Naha.  Her aunt-in-law was Helen Naha.  Cynthia made traditional Hopi-Tewa pottery with her own spin on the Naha family style.  She learned a lot of her pottery techniques from Sylvia Naha.  Each piece was coil-built, stone polished, and painted with bee-weed and natural clay slips.  This bowl has a large sunflower on each side.  They are VERY tightly painted with thin lines. Down the sides are geometric patterns with bird tails at the end.  The bowl is highlighted with white, orange, and red clay slips.  It is signed on the bottom in the clay, “C. Sequi Komalestewa”.  It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair.
