Carlos Laate learned to make pottery from his grandmother Daisy Hooee (a descendant of Nampyeo of Hano) and his aunt, Jennie Laate. He began making pottery in 1989 and utilizes traditional Zuni designs. This is a classic kiva bowl with a “step” form. The inside has painted tadpoles and the outside frogs and dragonflies. The piece has a clay handle. It is signed on the bottom, “C. Laate”. It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair.
