WOW!  This is a spectacular water jar by Marquis Dann-Lente (1970-2005).  He was the son of a Laguna mother and a Hopi father and, in Pueblo tradition, identified with the heritage of his mother.  He chose to use the hyphenated name of his father, Dann, and his mother, Lente.  He was known for his traditional style of Laguna pottery.  This is an exceptional and large piece of his pottery.  It is coil-built and painted with bee-weed (black) and additional clay colors.  The jar is thin-walled and has an elegant form with a sharp shoulder and short neck. The jar has a three-color rainbow on two sides.  Below the rainbows are two different clouds of different colors.  As the jar is turned, the top band of the rainbow descends into the earth, create bands for the flowers.  The placement of the designs with the shape of the jar is exceptional, as are the colors!  It is a dynamic and fluid jar that is precise in painting and creative in its imagery.  The jar is signed on the bottom, “Lente”.  It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
