Lewis, Dolores – Jar with Four Heartline Deer (1970s)

3.5"w x 2.5"h

$ 375.00

Dolores Lewis is a daughter of renowned potter Lucy M. Lewis.  Dolores is known for use of classic Acoma and Mimbres designs in her pottery.  This is a small jar with a round shoulder and short neck. There are four heartline deer painted encircling the jar.  They are painted with bee-weed and highlighted with red clay for the heartline.  The heartline deer imagery is a classic to both Acoma and Zuni pottery.  The heartline signifies the center or “heart” of the animal.  The jar is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Dolores Lewis” and it is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.  While Dolores makes little pottery today, work remains some of the classic traditional pottery of Acoma pueblo.
