Lewis, Drew – Large Water Jar with Acoma Birds, Hummingbirds, and Butterflies (1980’s)

11"w x 9.5"h

$ 975.00

Drew Lewis was a son of noted potter Lucy M. Lewis.  This is an exceptional larger jar made in the 1980s.  The jar is coil-built and painted with bee-weed (black) and clay slips.  There is an undulating rainbow around the shoulder of the jar.  At the rim are large rain patterns.  Around the shoulder are large Acoma birds along with flowers.  Interestingly, he has added a small butterfly, hummingbird, and bee near the flowers.  It is a variation of classic Acoma designs.  The piece is signed on the bottom, “Drew Lewis”.  It is in very good condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair.  There is one small area of spalling.  It is not often that we see pieces by Drew, especially in this larger size!
