Emma Lewis was a daughter of noted potter Lucy M. Lewis.  This is one of her few canteens.  It is a classic shape with a flat surface and extended handles.  The front is painted with bee-weed (black).  There is a Mimbres figure on the front of the canteen.  The piece was traditionally fired, so there are some color variations to the surface.  It is signed on the ack, “Emma Lewis”.   It is in very good condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
