Emma Lewis was a daughter of noted potter Lucy M. Lewis.  This is one of her few plates we have had in the gallery.  It is painted on the convex side of the plate and there are two holes at the top (probably so it could be hung on a wall).  The design is a bird and a rabbit.  it is inspired by a Mimbres bowl from the 1100’s with a similar image.  It is signed on the back, “Emma Lewis”.  It is in very good condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
