Eric Lewis has been talking about making some larger pieces and this is one of the first. The jar is entitled, “Eagle’s Flight”. The jar is an elegant shape with a strong shoulder and a short neck. The graphic is an eagle in flight on one side. The remainder of the jar uses bold lines to create bird and cloud imagery. It is a complex piece in design yet the imagery flows perfectly across the surface and matches the shape. The strong graphics on Eric’s pottery give them a modernist appearance. However, look closer and you can see a variety of traditional designs that he has used for the designs that are all based on traditional Acoma patterns. The jar is signed on the bottom, “Eric Lewis 2022”.
