This is a classic-style tall water jar by Eric Lewis.  It has a high shoulder and a short neck. The jar is fully painted and there is a stylized hummingbird on one side.  The hummingbird has geometric designs on the wings.  The bird is surrounded by cloud, plant, and wind designs as if you just caught a glimpse of the hummingbird in motion!  The remainder of the jar has stylized birds and cloud designs.  It is a complex piece in design yet the imagery flows perfectly across the surface and matches the shape.  The strong graphics on Eric’s pottery give them a modernist appearance. However, look closer and you can see a variety of traditional designs that he has used for the designs that are all based on traditional Acoma patterns. The jar is signed on the bottom, “Eric Lewis 2021”.
