Diane Lewis-Garcia is known for her tightly painted miniature pottery.  This is one of her very intricately painted seedpots.  The top is painted with birds, fish, a rabbit, lizard, deer, a quail family, and a flute player.  In the center is a three-headed turkey!  Take a closer look at the flute player and her face is the hole for the seedpot!  The figures are surrounded by traditional Acoma designs.  The piece is painted with bee-weed (black) and a variety of colors of natural clay slips.   The coloration and detail create a very striking piece!  It is signed on the bottom, “D. Lewis”.  It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.

Diane Lewis is a daughter of Kathleen Lewis and a sister of noted potters Rebecca Lucario, Marilyn Ray, Judy Lewis, and Carolyn Concho. She is known for her miniature pottery and the use of traditional and Mimbres imagery. She has won numerous awards at the Heard Museum Market and Gallup Ceremonials.
