Lewis, Lucy – Bowl with Fineline Interlocking Diamond Designs (1960s)

6.75"w x 4.5"h

This is an intricate fine-line bowl by Lucy Lewis.  She was one of the great Matriarch potters of the past century. This bowl is coil built, thin-walled, and painted using bee-weed, a plant used to create the black.  The bowl has very thinly painted fine-line diamond patterns.  It is an unusual design and perfectly painted!  There are exceptional optical illusions created in the grouping of diamond shapes!  The bowl is signed on the bottom, “Lucy M.  Lewis”.  It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.  Definitely a classic and a piece of history!
